Lipman, Dov
Son of Ada and Raphael, the second generation in Israel, grandson of Dov Berger, one of the founders of the city of Tel Aviv, was born on June 14, 1921 in Tel Aviv, when he joined the Haganah, In the summer of 1938 he was sent to the defense of Kfar Menachem and Givat Ada, and in 1941 he completed his studies at the Tel Aviv High School for Commercial Studies and immediately enlisted in the Hagana Order “To the British army, to the Royal Engineers unit, and to the establishment of fortifications in the north of the country and Syria, and with the establishment of the Jewish Brigade, he joined the ranks of the Jewish Brigade as a sabotage and mineshopper, serving in Belgium, Holland, Italy and Germany. When he returned to Israel, he accepted the transfer of a group of orphaned children from Italy, and returned to his activities in the Haganah, where he served in the army. Since the medical examination disqualified him, he was recruited in part and filled positions in the suburbs of Tel Aviv. In May 1948, during the battles for the breakthrough to Jerusalem, he reappeared and was asked to be sent to combat duty in full mobilization, and then enlisted to the engineering department of the 7th Brigade and went to the Latrun sector. He had only been in front for two days. On May 27, 1948, when Dov and his two comrades from the Brigade laid mines on the Latrun road after the failure of the first attack on the legion compound, an enemy shell hit the mine and Dov and his two friends were hit and fell. He was buried in Hulda. On the 9th of Cheshvan 5711 (9.11.1950) he was put to rest at the Nachlat Yitzhak military cemetery.
