Alexander (Alex), son of Miriam and Benjamin, was born on April 21, 1953 in Haifa, where he studied for two years at the AD Gordon School in Kiryat Haim and completed his studies at the Be’eri School in Neve Shaanan in Haifa . Afterward, he completed his high school studies at the Civic School, in the real sector. Alex, as his friends and family called him, was kind and comfortable, mild in manner, modest and quiet. At school he was a good student and had good achievements in all human subjects. He was a talented student, active, and in addition to school he participated in social activities in the school and was one of the chief organizers of cultural activities. Alex concentrated mainly on mathematics and was much more interested in them than was common in high school. At the end of his studies, Alex prepared a final thesis on the subject of “The theory of measurement of a group of blocked lines”. In his approach to everything, his clear criticism and his constant search for truth stood out. Alex was interested in many fields. He was fascinated by the art of painting and became part of a group that took place in the neighborhood community center. He played chess and continued enriching his knowledge with the help of reference books in this field. He devoted much time and thought to his two collections – a collection of stamps and a collection of Israeli coins. Besides, he liked to listen to modern music. But his main hobby was reading – both prose and poetry. The reading prompted him to wonder and delve into many issues. Alex was a member of the Hashomer Hatzair youth movement, and eventually led it. He fulfilled his mission as a teacher willingly and skillfully, and acquired knowledge and skill in this field at seminars held during summer vacations and in practical work. He was loved and admired by his apprentices, and always tried to serve as their example. Within the framework of the movement, and not in its framework, he traveled and toured the country in its length and breadth; the paths were clear to him and soon became an experienced explorer and guided his friends. Not only did he enjoy the scenery and the trip himself, he was also interested in the archeology of the various sites, the vegetation of the country in general and the Carmel vegetation – his place of residence – in particular. He expressed his love for nature in his sketches. Alex believed in the values of the movement, which led him to a pioneering realization. His most prominent feature was his interest in many different fields. He always wanted to know another area, to know and to expand his horizons. He was interested in many different topics: graphology, philosophy, psychology, physics, chemistry, Zen theory, and more. With each person he found common themes for conversation, and his words were always logical, balanced, deep and unique. As he spoke he listened to everything, knowing that Alex always had something interesting and important to say. Alex was a distinct individualist, with defined and established political views. Alexander was drafted into the IDF in mid-November 1971 and assigned to the Nahal Brigade. His nucleus was designated for Kibbutz Gvulot. Before his military service, Alex made three months in the kibbutz, where he worked in the field of agriculture. After completing his basic training, he went on a training course in the framework of Halat, where he guided and coordinated the Hashomer Hatzair branch in Kiryat Shmona, as part of his ideology, challenged himself to work in a development town. And was able to persuade parents to allow their children to go on trips under his supervision, during which time he initiated a self-study course in the Jewish consciousness and the local Rabbi came to his aid in this additional field of interest and also enrolled in the Tel Hai Regional College. Areas of Practice – The Wisdom of Israel and Philosophy Alex will volunteer for a paratroop unit – despite the objections of his mother, who is a Holocaust survivor – and in the framework of which he paidIn a parachuting course. By force of his will he overcame all obstacles and crises during his difficult military service. In the Yom Kippur War, Alex took part in the battle against the Syrians in the Golan Heights. During a fierce battle that took place on the 11th of Tishrei 5734 (7.10.1973) in the Tel a-Saki area, he was sent with a squad of soldiers to hasten reinforcements to a closed position. The force encountered an ambush by Syrian soldiers and Alex was killed in the exchange of fire. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Haifa. Survived by his parents and sister. Kibbutz Gvulot published in its memory a special booklet in the framework of the newsletter of the kibbutz “Ali Beshur”, which includes the words of friends about his character, his character and way of life. These remarks were also published in the section devoted to his memory in the booklet “In Memory of Them,” published by the Municipal School in memory of the fallen of the Yom Kippur War; His memory was also immortalized by his contribution to a permanent scholarship fund at the Technion (in mathematics) by his parents, and by an annual competition for the Volleyball Cup by the Hashomer Hatzair branch in Neve Sha’anan.
