Lifschitz, Pinchas (Pini)

Son of Esther and Pesach, was born on the 22nd of Adar 5708 (22.2.1948) in Tel Aviv. He graduated from the “Carmel” elementary school and later moved to the Geula High School. A year later he moved to ORT vocational school. When he was a boy, one of his brothers was killed near Ein Gedi, while he was walking with his class in the Gadna. In May 1966 he enlisted, underwent basic training and was sent to a truck drivers course. He successfully completed the course and throughout his service was employed as a driver. Pinchas fought in the Six-Day War and after the war was promoted to sergeant. In May 1969 he was discharged from regular service, married and moved to Ramat Gan. He also worked as a driver in his civilian life. When the Yom Kippur War broke out he was called to service and led troops to the front. During the Peace for Galilee War, he was drafted into reserve duty and was stationed as a driver in the Military Government House in Tire. On the 25th of Cheshvan 5743 (11.11.1982), as a result of the explosion of a gas container in the government building, the building collapsed and buried its inhabitants. Among those killed was Pinchas. He was 35 when he fell. He was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul in Tel Aviv. He left behind a wife, two children, parents and a brother. The commander of his unit wrote in a letter of condolence to his family: “Pinchas did everything he was entrusted with and was loved by his friends.”
