Lider, Abraham
Son of Dvora and Shmuel, was born on February 3, 1929 in Poland and immigrated to Israel in 1945 as part of the Youth Aliya. Upon his arrival he joined the training company at Kibbutz Givat Hashlosha. A year later he joined the Haganah and was active in it in various fields and was part of the Hachash unit. Abraham took his life for settlement and collective life, and prepared himself to meet all the challenges. At the outbreak of the War of Independence he was joined together with his training comrades in the Harel Brigade. He participated in various combat activities on the way to Jerusalem, in the Maccabi, Nachshon and Latrun operations and was among the escorts of the convoys on the Tel Aviv-Jerusalem road. On the night of June 8-9, 1948, he went with his battalion to the “Yoram” operation – the third attack on Latrun. Because of a mistake in navigating, the battalion was on the 14th deck, instead of the thirteenth position as planned. The fighters attacked the outpost and succeeded in capturing part of it, and during the fierce battle many of them were injured. The enemy’s resistance was fierce, and due to the casualties, there was no power to complete the conquest of the outpost and an order was given to withdraw. In this battle he fell on the 2nd of Sivan 5708 (June 9, 1948.) On the 17th of Cheshvan 5710 (17.11.1949), he was put to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
