Lichtenstein, Shlomo


Son of Tzippora and Moshe, fourth generation in Israel. A family of immigrants from Hungary, one of the builders of the new neighborhoods outside the walls of the Old City of Jerusalem, was born on 26.6.1926 in Jerusalem. He studied at Tachkemoni School. After finishing school, he helped his father, who was hired by the British army as a contractor for various construction work. As a result, his talent for building was discovered and he decided to study in this field. He then went on to study at the Montefiore Technical School in Tel Aviv, studied in Carmel and worked in a garage of the Tel Aviv Municipality. Shlomo was a naturalist and engaged in raising mail pigeons that were used to transmit information for Haganah purposes. He was one of the founders of the Israel pigeon association and secretary. On March 31, 1948, a large convoy was organized near Hulda. A delay in organizing the convoy because of the mishaps and mud on the way enabled the Arab forces to organize and block their way, and they were forced to retreat during battle. In this battle fell. He was laid to rest in the cemetery in Hulda.
