Lichtenstein, Mendel


Son of Dov. He was born in 1915 in the town of Ripin, Poland. In his town he joined the Zionist youth movement and went to the hachshara to prepare for immigration to Eretz Israel. He joined the “Ha-Miflas” kibbutz, but a few months later he was forced to leave the kibbutz in order to earn money and send money to his family in Poland. He moved to Kalmania, near Kfar Saba, where he worked as a permanent laborer in the fields and hoped to eventually become an independent farmer of his own. He also joined the ranks of the Haganah. On 16 Av, August 13, 1938, while working on irrigation, Mendel and his comrades were attacked by Arab gang members from the nearby village of Muski. Mendel was seriously wounded and died in the hospital. He was laid to rest in the Kfar Sava cemetery. He was 24 when he died. He left a mother and two sisters.
