Licht, Yehonatan (Yoni)


Son of Shoshana and Jacob. Jonathan (Yoni) was born on October 30, 1955 in the Mekor Chaim neighborhood of Jerusalem. There was a twin brother to David and a brother to Abraham and Elchanan. He studied at the Hebrew Gymnasium in Jerusalem and was an outstanding student. Yoni loved English, German and Dutch, loved to listen to music and read science fiction books, comedies and studies. In 1974, Yoni joined the IDF and served as an engineering officer, and later moved to the Armored Corps, commanded a tank company and served as a brigade operations officer. In 1983, Yoni was appointed head of a sabotage laboratory in the unit. Yoni contributed greatly to the Unit’s activities and to prominent events, such as the Jewish Underground, Beit Hadassah, Line 18 and Shaare Zedek. Yoni lived in Jerusalem with his wife Etti, who says: “Yoni was a son, husband, father and an exemplary friend, with great thought and a great sense of humor. With a willingness to help without enough, modest and possessing an occupying personality. “On January 16, 1985, when Yoni returned from a difficult training in the Beit Horon area, a pickup truck appeared at a speeding speed, hit the security fence and collided head-on with the police. Yoni was 30 years old when he died and was buried in the cemetery on Mount Herzl, Jerusalem, leaving a wife – Etty, a 1 year old daughter – Little, a month old son – Daniel, parents and brothers
