Liat Bilo Nissan


Major Liat Bilo Nissan, Daughter of Renee and Dan. Liat was born on October 24, 1974 in Jerusalem, the third child of her parents, a sister to Idit, Nimrod, Uri and Hila. Liat grew up and was educated in Jerusalem. She studied at the “Tali Bayit Vegan” elementary school, and attended the “Ziv and Marx” school in the seventh grade. She was a happy girl, active and friendly. She participated in drama circles and was an active member of the Hashomer Hatzair movement.
Liat enlisted in the IDF on January 3, 1993. After completing basic training, she underwent a course for teaching noncommissioned officers at the “Homa Alon” educational base. At the end of the course, she was stationed at the “Havat HaShomer” base near Ilaniya as a squad commander at the base of the Nitzana Education Corps. After completing her army service, she studied social work at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and then continued her studies at the University of Michigan. After completing her studies Liat worked as a social worker in Jerusalem. Her friend Carol wrote about her acquaintance: “A wonderful woman, serious and devoted, quiet and gentle.” In June 2002
When she was twenty-seven she married Yaniv. The two built their home in Modi’in. The couple had three daughters Shira, Hadas and Maayan. Liat was a wife, a loving, supportive and praiseworthy mother. Each of the girls gave her great happiness, she was very proud of them and in all her ways served as a source of inspiration. In January 2003, she enlisted in the IDF as a career officer in the Medical Corps and served in various positions in her military career. She completed her first job at a women’s prison base in the Zrifin camp, later in the “Meitav” sorting and placement unit, served as a hospitalization officer and as a lieutenant colonel in the recruitment office in Tel Aviv. “I was privileged to be her command at the mental health clinic in Be’er Sheva, and she managed the clinic so intelligently and with her special quiet, she helped me very much during one of the most difficult periods in my life.”
In her last position she served as the head of the mental health clinic at the Tel Hashomer base. In this role, like her previous duties, Liat was devoted and highly respected by her commanders and colleague. Her colleagues wrote: “A really good woman, dedicated, smart, with a sense of humor, a professional and an impressive commander,” “gentle, intelligent, caring for the staff, caring for the patients, “An amazing company, a sensitive person with a broad heart, warm and open to others who needs to be included and helped … a professional with confidence in the sanctity of her daily work.” Alongside her military work she continued to study and develop on a professional level. She taught courses, trained early-stage commanders, commanded a naval corps course for medical officers and completed psychotherapy studies at the Magid Institute.
In her spare time, she loved to travel in nature with her family and friends, especially loved to pick spring flowers. Her friends, Idit and Meggie, said: “We have won an amazing, supportive, trustworthy company, a strong woman who knows what she wants, assertive, smart and talented, who knows how to give good advice, to separate the essence from the treatment and to remind us of the proportions in life. We have always spent the most precious places in our places and never missed a common birthday. ” She took care of a healthy lifestyle, including sports, and participated in races of five and ten kilometers, including a city race in Modi’in, the Tel Aviv marathon and the Hever race. In April 2016 Liat was diagnosed with advanced lung cancer and immediately began intensive treatments. In a joint decision with her husband, Yaniv, along with the stubborn fight against the disease, they continued their lives as usual, taking advantage of every respite in treatments for entertainment with their daughters and trips in Israel and abroad. During this period Liat made sure to convey to those around her the same faith and determination. After a continuous struggle for the disease for two years, Liat died. Major Liat Blau-Nissan fell during her duties on the 12th of Iyar 5749 (April 27, 2018). She was forty-three years old. Was laid to rest in the military section of the Modi’in cemetery. Survived a husband, three daughters, parents, two sisters and two brothers. “We will always remember you as you are, a wonderful woman and mother, strong and brave, happy and loving, thank you for the years when you shaved the warm house, and we built a lot of knowledge, light and love.” “If I had a little sadness / maybe I learned something important from it, because at the end when it was over / There is a reason for everything / Alone in every one of them,” says Amir Dadon. / I think how time can fly / But when it’s over / There’s a reason for everything // A big light Illuminates everything / And no longer has to ask / I come to learn from what is good and live / Start all over again / Like breathe for the first time / No more wasted // And if I could only remember / Everyone has the way to go / But when it’s over / There’s an answer to everything. ”
Liat is commemorated at the memorial site of Modi’in-Maccabim-Reut Municipality.
