Levitsky, Chava
Daughter of Julia and Shimon, was born on July 14, 1925 in Vienna, the capital of Austria. Before she finished elementary school, she had to wander because of the annexation of Austria to Germany. From Austria she arrived in England as a refugee in 1939 and was trained in Hechalutz. In 1947, she boarded the ship Yagur and was sent to Cyprus. Upon her return from deportation she joined Kibbutz Gilad. Her friends on the kibbutz knew her as a devoted man. She was filled with a joy of creativity and a cheerful smile on her lips. When the battles broke out, she did not make do with working life and joined the ranks of the Palmach’s Palmach battalion, and she participated actively in battles around Jerusalem, conquering the Castel and breaking into the Old City. (January 7, 1949), the day before the end of the fighting in the vicinity of Rafah, while she was wearing the wounds of one of the soldiers. Under heavy enemy fire she found her way to the wounded man, despite warnings from her friends not to leave while the fire raged. A shell that hit the spot killed her with the wounded man who treated him. Eve was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Gilead.
