At the beginning of April 1994, Roman was drafted into compulsory army service. At the end of basic training he was assigned to the Navy, was chosen to take out a communications technician course and graduated with honors. He received the rank of corporal and was sent to serve in the Shayetet 13, as a liaison technician on the Kedmi team, who was happy and proud of his service in the navy and in his post, and was an exemplary soldier who performed his job at the highest professional level. On April 18, 1996, Roman found his death in a car accident at the Kastina junction and was brought to eternal rest in the Kiryat Gat military cemetery. In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, the unit commander wrote: “Roman, your son has completed a communications technician course and graduated with honors. He served in our unit for about a year and a half, and throughout his period he performed his duties in an excellent manner. Roman was a professional technician, dedicated and with remarkable perseverance. Roman loved the country and its landscapes.
