Levite, Ludwig
Son of Zelma and Max. Was born on December 18, 1923, in Günzenhausen, Germany. He immigrated to Eretz Israel in 1938. At first he lived with his brother in Hadera and then moved to Haifa to study at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, where he stopped studying and enlisted in the British army in 1941. On 27 Nisan, May 1, 1943, he and his unit on the ship “Aryanpura” made its way from Egypt’s Alexandria to Malta in a convoy of ships The ship was bombed by German airplanes and was soon drowned, with a hundred and forty men in the company and Ludwig among them. In the military cemetery on Mount Herzl a ship-shaped monument was erected in memory of those missing. His nephew is named after him. This fallen hero’s burial place is unknown.
