Levit, Michael (Micha)
Son of Moshe and Rivka, was born on 9.12.1930 in Be’er Tuvia. Michael was named after the dreamer and warrior Michael Halperin. All his friends and acquaintances called him affectionately: Micha. He grew up in the moshav and attended elementary school there. He was a member of the Hanoar Haoved movement and dealt mainly with the daily work of his parents’ farm. He had become familiar with all his knowledge with the simplicity of his manner and his integrity. He was a representative and emissary of the Keren Kayemeth LeIsrael in the village throughout the years and was honored for this. When the illegal immigrant ship Shabtai Lozinski appeared on the Nitzanim beach, he was among those who rushed to the aid of its people, where he was caught by the British and sent to Cyprus. Like all the children of the moshav, he was a member of the Haganah from his youth. He was trained in the Gadna and Hachash and at the beginning of the War of Independence served as a military scout. Despite the fact that his parents had lost their eldest son years ago, he came to the service and fell in battle for Beit Daras. Was a machine gunner and at the end of the battle, after a few of the brakes with a machine gun repaired by him, his weapon was exhausted. The help of our forces arrived, but Michael was mortally wounded in the stomach and died on May 11, 1948. He was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Be’er Tuvia.
