Levin, Zvi (Hershele)


Son of Hanna and Dov, was born in 1930 in the city of Sochachev, Poland. At the age of 9 he was brought into the ghetto by the Nazis, but managed to escape and lived in a house of Christian farmers who raised him as their child. After the war, he entered a children’s home in Helenowek and left Poland with his friends on their way to Eretz Israel. In this way he spent three quarters of a year in detention in Cyprus and arrived in Israel on September 26, 1947. His wish was to settle in the kibbutz. In May 1948, he enlisted and on the 17th of Tammuz 5707 (17.7.1948), he fell while serving in the war to liberate Jerusalem. On the 11th of Adar 5702 (28.2.1950) he was laid to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
