Levin, Yosef (Sefi)

Levin, Yosef (Sefi)

Son of Menachem and Natanya. He was born on May 3, 1947 in Kibbutz Ma’agan Michael, where he spent twelve years studying. Sefi was a smart, intelligent and intelligent child, said Naomi Zorea, a member of the kibbutz, who added that he was also closed and withdrawn, loving a friend but lonely in her, sensitive to what was happening around him. “His inability to bring out what he felt inside was sometimes embarrassing,” his friends recall. “He always wanted to be one of the guys, but it was hard for him to develop a conversation with them. Seffi was the brilliant student of the math class, and in other professions he showed his strength, but his work in writing perfectly matched the laconicness of his speech-some written lines at the height of the summary and the point. To this day, the story of Sefi’s summary work on the issue of military rule is being discussed in the kibbutz. He handed Teacher Pinchas two pages. Pinchas demanded that he expand a bit. Vespy returned to Pinchas with a few blank pages, adding that the censor would not allow it to be published. Spee had a wonderful sense of humor that came to be discovered mainly in his letters. Sometimes he accidentally threw out a word that made a loud noise. Everyone remembers the cruise to Lyon. The pilot’s future, did not like the sea though he was born on its shores. On the cruise he was miserable. The water around him did not like him, and he said, “Just bring me a ticket on a donkey – and I go home.” His amusing jokes were heard mainly by members of the family, to whom he was connected with all of his soul. Sefi was a man of the house. He loved children, loved the kibbutz and his family, and loved his mother mainly. He used to reinforce his words with “My mother said” – that mother who was such an important figure in his life. Seffi was a good basketball player and knowledgeable in many fields. He read a lot, but his knowledge was usually kept discreetly, and only occasionally-when no answers were found to the question that arose in the classroom, Seffy would save the situation. One of the qualities that characterized him from childhood was the aspiration to perfection-the desire to do only the same thing that could be done in a hundred percent; And another characteristic characteristic – his great sensitivity under the mask of closeness. Noga, who later became his wife, was perhaps the only one who got to know Sefi’s wealth. His love for Noga, “my trifling, foxy girl,” knew no bounds. It can be said that he deposited all his existence and all his being in Noga’s hands, or as he himself said: “She is the initiator, the proponent, the planner, and I – only hears and does.” When he met Noga, Sefi opened the door to the company, although he never took part in loud events, and always preferred the warmth of the house and the limited family framework. At the beginning of November 1965, he was drafted into the Israel Air Force, where he began to fulfill his childhood dream of being a pilot, finishing flying school, taking a parachuting course and serving as a Skyhawk pilot, flight instructor and officer in the squadron. He participated in the War of Attrition after the Six-Day War and during the Yom Kippur War, volunteering to serve in Kaveh, returned to the kibbutz for about a year and returned to serve as a permanent member of the Israel Air Force base. . Diligent and accomplished. Who has contributed greatly to the best atmosphere in the unit, with initiative and a desire to progress. “During his years in office he was promoted to the rank of Major, and served as the squadron’s deputy commander in his last position:” To judge Sefi as a pilot, You could say that he was always at peace with himself. In the course he did not walk lightly. He was not the kind of success that came to him and it hurt him. But he never blamedThe guide, and we always knew: next time he would succeed. And he succeeded. He was one of the first Skyhawk pilots and was in love with the plane and its performance. Was loyal to the plane, as he was loyal to other things he believed in. For many hours he devoted himself to reading theoretical material about his plane, was always interested in the innovations of technique and was considered an expert in this respect. Seffi was a big silent. After the war he did not say a word about himself, only about the performance of the air force. Only now did we discover the story that in the war, on the first flight, the plane was lit up. The pilot who flew next to him told him to jump, but he said that as long as the plane continued to fly, he would not jump, and when he saw the flames diminish, he landed the plane with only a fraction of it in the air. “When he returned from the Yom Kippur War, On October 28, 1974, Sefi fell in his duties and was laid to rest in the cemetery of Kibbutz Ma’agan Michael, leaving behind a wife, parents, brother Vashti In a letter of condolence to the family, his commander wrote: “For the first time, I met Sefi when he moved to the squadron as a Second Lieutenant, and when he was first mentioned as a candidate, he was noted as a pilot and a responsible, He was a perfect reconnaissance of the aircraft’s new and complex systems and was a perfect merger of a pilot and a systems man, whose role was to serve as second deputy to the squadron commander, but because he was an expert on the aircraft, his role was much broader. He did not look for command and did not exercise authority by virtue of his rank, but used to explain and analyze his opinion until he convinced .Sepi wanted to continue studying and broaden his horizons, and he wanted to combine his flight skills with his tendency to study engineering, And recently he was faced with a decision in this direction. Sefi’s death is a severe blow to all of us. We saw him as an example of responsibility, maturity and caution, a good pilot and a talented leader who served as an example for young pilots in the squadron. Sefi educated a generation of fighters in the squadron, who knew how to fill his place and fulfill the tasks imposed on them completely. “In his memory, Kibbutz Ma’agan Michael published a booklet containing excerpts from Sefi’s letters and friends’ comments on his character.
