Levin, Yehoshua (“Shuki”)

Levin, Yehoshua (“Shuki”)

Son of Aharon and Hinda. He was born in 1949 in Jerusalem and studied at the Maaleh elementary school where he continued his high school studies, and was a member of the Scouts and Gadna movements. Yehoshua was drafted into the IDF in August 1967 and assigned to the Armored Corps on December 14, 1969. He fell in an enemy ambush near the Suez Canal. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem. The battalion commander wrote in a letter of condolence to the bereaved parents: “I hope that in my letter, I can even relieve your heavy grief by telling you how much Shuki, your son, was called by his friends, loved and admired by his commanders and friends, The most important role of Shuki in the battalion was the sergeant of a divisional connection, a difficult and complicated task, which he fulfilled with such dedication and energy, especially during the period of preparation and training for the descent to our wide line. Engraved in the memory and hearts of his friends and commanders wherever the unit goes. ” In the 1930s, a memorial ceremony was held in which the principal of the high school said: “If there are still no emergency meetings of governments, the future will not be held to save the refugees of the sword of the State of Israel, it is only the right of the soldiers of Israel, Who were totally devoted to their military role and who fell in the sword – including our beloved student Yehoshua – – – We knew Joshua as a quiet and honest man. He was absorbed in the school of Ahavat Torah, love of Israel and love of the Land of Israel, and Yehoshua did as if the entire fate of the Jewish people lay on his shoulders. No job without any pretensions. Wordlessly and tireless devotion – – – death acquitted Joshua us and all of Israel alive – – – “. In his memory, the family donated a Yaffa parochet to the Ark and a “Ma’ale” for a Torah scroll, to the synagogue at the Ma’aleh High School.
