Then he left Eyal, his parents’ home and his friends in Shfayim. He served in one of the finest cruisers and there he wanted to do his best, and indeed he was a good soldier, brave and loyal. He completed his basic training period, followed by a course for squad commanders and finally a training course. It had a wonderful blend of joy and seriousness and always chose challenges and difficult tasks. During his service he met his future wife and in late October 1970 married her. On November 26, 1970, about a month after his marriage, Israel fell in the line of duty. He was laid to rest in the cemetery at Kibbutz Shefayim.
