Levi, Yosef (Yossi)


Son of Yerginia, and Lavi, was born on the 13th of Adar 5628 (5.3.1928) to a traditional Zionist family in Sofia, Bulgaria. He graduated from elementary school with honors, excelled in painting and playing the accordion, and enjoyed his friends in the Hashomer Hatzair youth movement. Yosef immigrated to Israel in 1945 as part of the Youth Aliya and was accepted to the Kibbutz Hazorea Youth Training Center. On November 15, 1947, he enlisted with all his comrades in the Palmach, and at the beginning of the battles in Israel served in the First Battalion. Yosef was sent to Sarona and completed a driving course, and when he returned to his battalion, he participated in all his major activities, such as the bombing of the Sheikh Hussein Bridge over the Jordan River, the Mishmar Ha’emek system, and the attacks on Kfar Kena, Kfar Qa’on, where he fell on the 12th of Nissan 5708 (21.4.1948). Yosef was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Afula.
