Levi, Yosef


Son of Sarah and Yitzhak, was born in 1926 in Jerusalem. He began studying at the Talmud Torah in the neighborhood of Nahalat Zion and continued his studies at the boys’ school. When his father was killed by Arabs, he was forced to stop his studies and went to work to ease the burden of making a living from his mother, who was very devoted to her and always comforted her. In his spare time he loved painting. In the War of Independence, he served in the Irgun and was one of the best snipers, and before he left for battle he would say that he was going to fight for life and die for the homeland, and when he managed to hit the enemy with his bullets he would avenge his father’s blood. On June 20, 1948. He was buried in Sanhedria, on the 26th of Elul 5711 (26.9.1951) was transferred to the eternal rest of the military cemetery at Mount Herzl in Jerusalem
