Levi, Yosef

Yosef, son of Mazal and Chaim Levi, was born in 1929 in Jerusalem. He joined the Lehi underground and filled many important positions. During the Mandate he was imprisoned in Latrun for weapon possession and was sentenced to ten years in prison. When he returned from Latrun he joined the IDF and took part in an operation to capture a branch of Armon Hanatziv. The enemy launched a counterattack and our forces were forced to withdraw. Yosef was severely wounded in this battle and he died of his wounds on the 12th of Av (17.8.1948), after spending eight days in the hospital. He was was brought to eternal rest in the military cemetery at Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
