Levi, Yaniv

Born in Jerusalem on 17.3.1971 Yaniv graduated from the Sharett Elementary School in Kiryat Moshe, where his family lived for 16 years, and continued his studies at ORT College in the capital, specializing in electronics, and completed with excellent grades. At the age of ten he was severely burned in both legs as a result of an accident and after a long medical treatment he was granted 42 percent disability, but Yaniv did not give up and, in addition to his studies, nurtured his hobbies, he was a clear athlete and excelled as a rugby and climber. He always liked to help others, but despite his physical limitations, he decided to contribute his part to the army and the state Another young man, and in August 1989 he was drafted. Yaniv underwent a professional course, rose to the rank of sergeant and was assigned to a responsible position in the Ordnance Division. His service was impeccable and he liked the commanders and soldiers of the unit. Throughout his army service, he was very attached to his girlfriend, whom he had met since he was 12, and planned his way to the future. On the 24th of Tammuz 5771 (July 6, 1991) Yaniv fell during his service and was buried in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem. He left behind his parents, brother and sister – Eyal and Liat. In a letter of condolence to his family, his commander wrote: “Yaniv was a young boy who volunteered for the army despite severe physical limitations, and he was a very motivated guy who, Yaniv was a soldier with a sense of responsibility who felt himself, and rightly so, a full partner in all the Unit’s activities and operations during the period in which he served … Yaniv will always remain part of the unit, part of us. “
