Levi, Shlomo
Shlomo, son of Sarah and Saadia Levi, was born in Sanaa, the capital of Yemen. In 1942 he immigrated to Israel, worked in a laundry in Tel Aviv and was active in the Irgun. In the winter of 1948, Shlomo participated in activities against the British and the Arabs, and in the spring, in the campaign to conquer Jaffa. He was among the defenders of Mishmar Hayarden. In a battle that took place on the 3rd of Sivan, June 10, 1948, three soldiers were killed in the battles of Mishmar HaYarden were buried in an unknown grave in Rosh Pina, including Shlomo. In 2012, a strenuous investigation by the Unit for Locating Missing Persons in the IDF, revealed that two of them had been buried in the mass grave in Rosh Pina, and the third was buried in a grave marked “Unknown” in Nachlat Yitzhak. The unknown soldier was transferred to the mass grave in Rosh Pina and on the 4th of Shevat, 16.01.2013, three tombstones with their names were placed on the mass grave and a ceremony was held to unveil a monument, in the presence of their families.
