Levi (Sasson), Yosef
Yosef, son of of Miriam and Eliahu Levi, was born on May 4, 1916 in the city of Hamdan, Iran, to a Zionist family and was educated in a Zionist-national spirit from his childhood. He immigrated to Israel with his parents in 1921. On August 8, 1948, during a tour of the vicinity of Ma’aleh Hahamisha, Yosef’s unit wandered between the mountains, and Yosef, who was a member of the Jewish Brigade, volunteered to go up to the top of the mountain for observation and orientation. While he was there, he was seriously injured in the stomach and all the doctors’ efforts to save him failed. Yosef died of his wounds on 11 Av, August 16, 1948, eight days before his marriage. He was buried in Sheikh Bader Aleph. On the 17th of Elul 5706 (August 30, 1950) he was transferred to the eternal rest of the military cemetery at Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
