Levi, Racheli


Daughter of Henya and Rahamim. She was born in Ashkelon on June 4, 1981. She was a child of Sandwich, between Adi and Limor, and was named after her grandmother Rachel, who studied at the Ilanot Elementary School and the ORT Afridar Ronson High School, In the course of her years of study, the teachers’ reports on Raheli – quiet and clever – did not change much, but she did not participate in the classes, but in all the exams she scored 100. She completed her matriculation exams with an average grade of 106 and even earned points for academic studies, She studied at the Ashkelon branch of Bar Ilan University in the MOLH program (readiness for university). She studied courses in Judaism, law and criminology. After a short time she was sent to an advanced Oracle course which she successfully completed and returned to the unit. Racheli loved her role and every day returned home full of experiences, and her commanders were also impressed by her talent. Colonel Yishai, commander of the unit, relates: “Racheli started out as a programmer in the equipment center. She led her colleagues in the unit in her quest for excellence and for the integrity of her mission and performance. We do not encounter every day a serious soldier with high personal abilities and motivation, as Raheli demonstrated in her image. Racheli represented the best of the youth with her wit, glittering eyes and a perpetual smile. “On February 14, 2001, Raheli was killed in a terrorist attack at the Azor junction, and that morning she arrived by bus from Ashkelon and waited at the bus stop for Tel Hashomer. He was killed by seven soldiers and one civilian, and the other two were killed: Sgt. Magdish Ofir, Sergeant Iluz David, Sergeant Weiner Sarah-Jolie, Sergeant Polonsky Kochi, Corporal Manvich Alexander, Corporal Krisi Yasmin and Sima Shitrit . Sigal, her best friend from Ashkelon who served with her, was seriously injured in the attack. At the age of nineteen, Racheli was in the nouvelle. She was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Ashkelon. Survived by her parents and two sisters. After her death Raheli was promoted to sergeant. Yaniv Harpaz, a commander and a member of Racheli, set up a website in her memory – www.racheli.org. The site contains press clippings, a photo gallery, letters that Racheli wrote and the words of family members, friends and MapBow in her memory. The site also contains several dozen songs written by Racheli’s friends who miss her.
