Levi, Nissim
Nissim, son of Golda and Pesach Levi, was born on 30.1.1929 in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria. When he was nine, his parents immigrated to Israel and he began studying at the Alliance School in Tel Aviv. Four years later, the family returned to Bulgaria because of its difficult financial situation, and Nissim continued to study at the Hebrew school in Sofia. Because of the war and the German occupation, the whole family was expelled from the city and they passed this difficult period in a village. With the first aliya of Youth Aliya, Nissim immigrated to Israel with his sister in November 1944 and immediately found work in Kibbutz Dafna. He loved animals and plants very much and was glad that he had been given a job in the barn, where he worked until his last days.
After three years in Dafna, he moved to settle with his nuclear group in Misgav Am. When Nissim enlisted in the Palmach, he was forced to move to where the Hagalil Battalion was based. He participated in many battles and punitive actions against the bandits village of Mansura, near Mishmar Hayarden. Nissim fell on the 7th of Shevat 5708 (18.1.1948) and was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Chulata. His kibbutz, Misgav Am, published a pamphlet in his memory.
