Levi, Moshe-Haim

Moshe-Haim was born on the 4th of Sivan, May 27th, 1925 in Jerusalem to religiously observant parents and received his education at the Mizrachi school, and moved to Tel Aviv at the age of 15, where he worked as a barber and helped as much as he could. He joined the Palmach Brigades and participated in the battles of Rosh Hanikra, Nebi Yusha, Malkiya and Latrun. In preparation for the first truce, the Yiftah Brigade was demoted to the central region and took part in the fighting in the Latrun area. At the end of the first truce, the brigade participated in the “Danny” operation and in July 1948, towards the beginning of the second truce, the “Haemek” Battalion seized Shilat and controlled the eastern part of the Korikor ridge to threaten the wing of the Legion. In the morning it became clear that the Legion force was holding the western part of the ridge. The enemy attacked the force in the outpost from two directions with the aid of armored vehicles, and was forced to withdraw. In the harsh retreat in an open area and under crossfire, many of the fighters fell onJuly 11th, 1948, about two hours before the second truce took effect. On the 11th of Adar, Febuary 2nd, 1950 he was laid to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
