Levi, Mordechai

Levi, Mordechai

Son of Nissim and Yehudit. Born in Rhodes on 25 February 1934, he studied at an Alliance school in Tangier and after immigrating to Israel in 1945, and then at the age of eleven, joined the youth group in Kfar Giladi. A year later he decided to join an agricultural nucleus closer to his family and his home in Holon. Entered the agriculture and worked in Tel Aviv and worked there for only one year. Because the family was in bad shape and the father was sick, he decided to help the family and began working in a factory. After his father’s death in 1949 he remained the sole breadwinner of his large family. He devoted himself with great care to the little children who had no father. Then he had to learn a profession and choose construction. At the age of 17, he joined a group of contractors and continued to work until he was drafted into the IDF in March 1952. Even during his days of service he made sure to give his family as much as possible and looked forward to his release. He died on the 12th of Nissan 5713 (March 28, 1953) and was brought to eternal rest in the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul.
