Levi, Jacob
Son of Maimon and Mazal Tov. He was born in 1948 in Marrakech, Morocco, and immigrated to Israel with his family in 1956. He attended the Afikim elementary school and the Amal vocational high school in Dimona, where he respected his parents and was very attached to his home and family. During his short vacations, he tried to get home to relieve his parents’ worries, and was drafted into the IDF in August 1967 and volunteered for the navy. His commanders testify that he was an excellent soldier and excelled at all the tasks he was assigned. In the navy he completed a long and arduous course, was ordained as a sniper and became a sergeant. In the third week of January 1972, he was called to reserve duty, which was supposed to end on March 9, 1972. On the 28th of Adar 5732 (February 28, 1972), he fell in the line of duty. He was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Dimona. He responded to his call for volunteering to serve in an elite unit in the Israeli Navy and immediately joined the IDF as a volunteer in the ranks of the fighters as part of the long and arduous course, as a tough soldier – a home that is not deterred by difficulties and difficult training even during the most difficult hours. He had the courage, the will and the resourcefulness that awaited him during his service in the unit even after completing the course and being ordained as a combat diver. Jacob participated in many dangerous operations and successfully met them, and his commanders always appointed him on the way out, because it was clear to them that Ya’akov could be trusted without hesitation. His loss to us and to us is a great loss: to you – as parents and to us – as brothers to arms. “His parents published a booklet in his memory called” Ya’akov “and donated a Torah scroll to his memory.
