Ilan joined the Nahal paramilitary unit in Sde Boker, but later volunteered to serve in the Armored Corps. And was one of the outstanding soldiers in his unit, and was sent to the Armored Corps Officers Course, where he also excelled in his performance. Ilan fell during his duty on 10 May 1989 in an accident that took place in the Merkava tank at the end of the course, and was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Ashkelon and placed two parents, two sisters, Hagit, Chen and Miri in the letter.
