Levi, Gideon


Son of Shimon and Dina. He was born on August 14, 1941, in Tel Aviv. He completed his studies at Yesod HaMa’ala Elementary School and later studied at the Weizmann Agricultural School in Mishmar Hanegev. As a continuation of his three years of studies there, he studied for two more years at the high professional agricultural school in Acre, where he was one of the graduates of the first class. He belonged to the Hanoar Haoved movement from an early age. In August 1960 he enlisted in the IDF and volunteered for the Paratroopers Brigade, where he took several courses in the framework of this corps. He was very kind, and through him he would distribute his salary among needy soldiers in his company; He would also invite them home. He supported his parents and brothers, bought various instruments (saxophone and guitar) and financed his brother’s studies with the money he earned. Even during the difficult periods of his life, his natural cheerfulness did not leave him and was always optimistic in his view of life. In addition to this optimism, he had confidence in the people around him. During the period of service, he served as deputy company commander, and for two years he signed a permanent army service, after which he turned to civilian life, and at first the recession hit him and for nine months he was out of work. In the end, he was appointed chief manager at the Comodor Hotel in Tel Aviv, and felt that his place would be recognized here. In the process, in order to complete the professional knowledge he needs for this position, he studied at the Institute for External Studies of Tel Aviv University in public relations, business management and advertising; He also studied at the Tadmor Hotel in Herzliya. On the eve of the Six-Day War Gideon was called to the flag, and as a lieutenant he fell in a battle that took place in Jerusalem on the second day of the battles, on the 27th of Iyar 5727 (June 6, 1967) in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood, while he was at the head of his unit.
