Levi, Eliyahu (Eli)
Ben Gars and Avraham. Was born on July 12, 1937 in the city of Aleppo, Syria, “Eliahu was drafted into the IDF in mid-May 1955, and was assigned to the Ordnance Corps. During his service, he took part in Operation Kadesh, and until the end of his regular service, he reached the rank of corporal. The release certificate described his behavior as good, and his commanders’ assessment was that he “fulfilled his duty to the satisfaction of his commanders, of a straight and stable character.” At the end of November 1957, after two and a half years of devoted service, Eli was released from regular service and assigned to reserve duty in the medical corps. He worked for long periods in the garages of the Egged and Dan companies, and in the military industry, and eventually worked as a self-employed in various transfers. He married Batya, and they had two daughters and a son. During the Six-Day War and the Yom Kippur War, Eli was called to active duty and received the signals of battle and operational service. On the 5th of Nissan 5740 (25.3.1980), Rabbi Eliahu fell while serving in the army and was laid to rest in the cemetery in Kiryat Shaul, leaving behind a wife, two daughters and a son.
