Levi, Eliyahu
Eliyahu, son of Esther and Aharon Levi, was born in 1912 in Iran, and in 1924 immigrated to Israel with his family. Upon his arrival in Israel, he attended elementary school. Eliyahu settled in Hatikva neighborhood in Tel Aviv, opened a barber shop, married and had two children. During the War of Independence he was drafted into the army and served in the “Kiryati” brigade, and during the operation “Dani” our forces took control of the Modi’in area. On September 24, 1948, local Arabs attacked the fort in violation of the truce. The defenders of the outpost were surprised and forced to retreat in light of the enemy’s superiority, and many were injured in the retreat. The next day, our forces attacked and conquered the outpost. In this battle Eliyahu fell, on the 21st of Elul 5708 (24.9.1948) and on the 22nd of Elul, he was laid to rest in the military cemetery at Nahalat Yitzhak.
