Levi, Eli (Alex)
Eli ben of Anna and Yuri. He was born on the 18th if Elul, September 13, 1976, in Leningrad, the former Soviet Union. His generosity, altruism and his willingness to help the other at all times and in all circumstances were among his outstanding characteristics. With Eli’s encouragement, his family immigrated to Israel in the winter of 1994. They first lived in Tel Aviv and later settled in Jerusalem. At the end of December 1996, he was drafted into compulsory military service. He was assigned to the Hebrew military school in Acre. At the end of basic training, mechanical engineering equipment operators were sent to the School of Military Engineering. Eli was satisfied with his job. He hoped that he would be able to continue to work in this field even after the liberation. On the 28th of Nissan 5758 (24 April 1998) he fell to during his service at age twenty-two. He was laid to rest at the Mount Herzl Military Cemetery, Jerusalem. The words were engraved on his grave: “Your smile will not be worn from our hearts forever, we will pray.” Survived by his mother, sister Yelena and two brothers – Nikolai and Jacob. In a letter of condolence, Lt.-Gen. Amnon Lipkin-Shahak wrote: “Eli was described by his commanders as a serious soldier with a high personal level, who displayed great motivation, radiated joy of life and was popular among those around him.”
