Levi, Dovid


Dovid, son of Sara and Yitzhak Levi was born on February 10, 1930 in Tel Aviv. Dovid lost his father as a young child, so he left school at an early age and began working to support the family. Dovid was a member of the Akiva youth movement and later was one of the first members of Maccabi in Jaffa. He belonged to the “Seder” company and devoted time to training in the “Zevulun” marine association, because he was eager to help the illegal immigration movement. After the UN General Assembly decided on 29 November, 1947 to partition the country and the outbreak of the War of Independence, Dovid accepted the order and joined the ranks of the defenders of the Kiryati Brigade, which was based in Sharona and served as a machine gunner. On the 10th of Adar II, March 21, 1948, his platoon came out to help the Hatikva neighborhood under attack. Dovid went to the medical clinic more medicine, meanwhile, the platoon came out and chasing the car, skidded the wet road after the rain, and a tanker coming towards him ran over him. Dovid was brought to Hadassah but he died of a complication. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery at Nahalat Yitzhak.
