Dafna was a mentor and a counselor in the Maccabi Hatzair movement and enjoyed a lot of her social activity. In November 1983 Dafna enlisted in the IDF and after basic training she was sent For a drafting course, which was successfully completed. She was later assigned to the Paratroopers Brigade – a form to which she was tied with strong ties until the day of her death. Her gentleness, dedication and efficiency gave her a reputation in the unit in which she served. The day she was released from her regular service, in November 1985, she had a sad day. She knew that she would always miss the family atmosphere of the Paratroopers’ Brigade, the tension and satisfaction of playing vital roles. Indeed, after she was discharged from compulsory service and worked for two years at the National Insurance Institute in Hadera, Dafna decided to return to the career army in the Paratroopers Brigade. Her old commanders were Simcha to accept it and she justified the hopes they had planted. Within a short time she had acquired the enviable status of an effective sergeant, immeasurably dedicated, full of life and creating an atmosphere of joy all around her. She served in the north of the country and in Lebanon and accompanied the brigade in all its operational activities. On the night of the 5th of Av 5748 (19.7.1988), Dafna fell in her duty as she drove by military vehicle to her home in Zichron Yaakov and was scheduled to report to the Jerusalem Command for a new and responsible position. Daphne Levy lost her life and was buried in the military section of the cemetery in Zichron Yaakov, leaving behind her parents and five brothers and sisters – Noga, Adi, Rachel, Einav and Oz. In the evening, after completing her work as a trainee, she would arrive at the Operations Department and continue with the work, which in fact would have ended She was hers. Almost every evening I saw her helping with sketches and preparing orders until the wee hours of the night … full of joy and cheerfulness … In time she became part of the ‘family’ – the paratroopers’ family. Stood out among the soldiers of the brigade and was always at the center of things … When she returned to the service, I was not surprised … The cohesive family in the brigade, the atmosphere of activity, lack of routine and lack of activity … In the special garden of the Paratroopers Brigade, “He said. In his letter of condolence to the family, her direct commander noted the dedication, grace and efficiency with which she had done her job. “The same grace will remain etched in our memory, and that dedication and efficiency will serve as landmarks for us.”
