Levi, Benjamin

Benjamin, son of Esther and Pinchas Levi, was born in 1921 in Iraq. In 1932 he immigrated to Israel with his parents and the family settled in the Old City of Jerusalem, where he studied in a Talmud Torah for Sephardim. During the siege of Jerusalem and the Arab onslaught on the Jewish Quarter in the Old City, the ranks of the defenders were present. On May 22, 1948, Benjamin fell in the Old City and was buried there. His name was engraved on the monument erected in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in memory of those who perished in the Jewish Quarter and the memory of soldiers who fell in the battle for Jerusalem and were buried on the Mount of Olives.
