Levi, Avraham


Avraham, son of Mazal and Ezra Levi, was born on May 10, 1923 in Jerusalem. His father, who was a guard in the Talpiyot neighborhood, was killed in the 1929 riots, defending his neighborhood against the rioters. Avraham was educated in religious schools in Jerusalem and Petach Tikvah, and when he grew up, he became active in the Hagana.
At the outbreak of World War II, Avraham enlisted in the British Army as part of the Jewish Brigade. After his discharge from the British Army, he enlisted in the Nutras. When the War of Independence began, he was sent to train in the organized Hebrew police. In 1950, Avraham enlisted in the Border Police and was a counselor in the Minorities Department. On the 30th of Sivan 5712 (22.6.1952), Avraham was killed while performing his duty near Qalqiliya, aged twenty-nine in his fall, buried in the cemetery in Givat Shaul, Jerusalem, leaving a wife and three children. “Beit Levi.” His name is engraved on a memorial to the fallen of the Border Police at the Eyal police station near Kfar Saba.
