Levi, Avraham


The eldest son of Frida and Benyamin, he was born in Jerusalem on August 14, 1930. He studied at the Talmud Torah and continued his studies in evening classes, and at a young age, he began to work to help support the family. In the beginning of the War of Independence after the United Nations General Assembly resolution of 29 November 1947 on the partition of the country, he was drafted and served in the Jerusalem Brigade. Avraham accompanied convoys to Mount Scopus and Atarot and participated in the Battle of Atarot. In the army, he served as a sapper. He was very devoted to his family. In one of his last letters to home, he wrote: “Grandma, keep my mother from crying so much these days.” Avraham was sent with his company as a reinforcement to Gush Etzion, participated in the defense of the Gush and fell on the 27th of Nissan 5708 (May 5, 1948). On the 25th of Cheshvan 5710 (17.11.1949), he was transferred to the eternal military cemetery at Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
