Levi, Abraham


Son of Yehudit and Jacob (Jacques) was born in 1928 in Cairo, the capital of Egypt. Avraham received a thorough education, was a member of Maccabi, devoted himself to the movement with great Lev and soul and was very active in collecting funds for national funds. He aspired to immigrate and arrived in Israel in 1945 at the age of 17. He spent one year in Degania Bet, then moved to Tel Aviv and worked in the profession of polyurethane. Avraham joined the army in January 1948. He first served in the Upper Galilee and was later transferred to the Givati ​​Brigade at his request. He participated in “Nachshon” activities, specialized in the “Baran” machine gun and excelled with courage and spirit of battle. As part of Operation Chametz to encircle Jaffa, a battalion of the Givati ​​Brigade attacked Tel Arish (Tel Giborim today) near Holon, on the night of 28-29 April 1948. The force conquered the hill and began to establish itself there. The enemy organized quickly and with the help of reinforcements from Jaffa carried out a counterattack. The force, which did not manage to organize itself, withdrew under pressure from the Arab attack, first to the southern slope of the mound and from there to Mikvah Yisrael and Holon. This battle took place on the 29th of Nissan 5708 (28.4.1948). He was laid to rest in the military cemetery at Nahalat Yitzhak.
