Levanon, Gideon
Son of Zvi and Penina. He was born on the 19th of Tammuz, July 6, 1928 in Jerusalem. After completing his studies at the Tachkemoni School, he continued to study at the Beit Hakerem high school. He was active in Maccabi Hatzair, and belonged to the Hagana, during those days of revolt, and the beginning of the Yishuv’s war for independence. After completing his studies, he joined the ranks of the Palmach, and participated in the War of Independence. He became one of the first occupiers of Be’er Sheva. He continued his career in the Air Force, where he graduated. After a short time, he was promoted to lieutenant. He had completed his studies at the university, but his diploma as a law clerk, was handed over to his bereaved parents, on the 18th of Iyar, for two months before, he fell while fulfilling his duties, on the 20th of Adar 2, March 25, 1954. He was brought to eternal rest, in the military cemetery, on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem. In 1955, a library was established in his name, at the Tachkemoni School, and he was memorialized in the book “You Want to Know – Please!” which appeared in Jerusalem in 1955.
