Lev (Leo), Kurt
He was born in 1914 in the Sudeten region of Czechoslovakia to a traditional family and adhered to the Zionist idea, and after the end of his studies he began to work in clerical work, and after the transfer of the Sudetenland to Germany following the Munich Agreement of September 1938. His sister died in England, his father died and his mother remained in Czechoslovakia, and in February 1940 he and his brother were among the illegal immigrants to Palestine who had been stranded in the sea for many days. He was arrested and held there for half a year, and after being released from the camp he moved to Tel Aviv. He was drafted into the British army fighting the Nazis, and he was very polite and dedicated in his role as a quartermaster in the army and offered assistance to every soldier who needed it. During his service in Egypt he died in a road accident on 3 Av, 17.7.1942, and was buried in Heliopolis, Egypt. He left a mother, brother and sister. The booklet “The Jewish Soldier” published the words of friends in his memory.
