Lesser, Zvi

Was born on June 19, 1916, in the city of Toren, Germany. After his family moved to Berlin in 1922, Zvi studied at the Karl Marx High School. After completing his studies in this school, his parents asked to be sent to the university, but Zvi refused and went to agricultural training in one of the farms around Berlin. Because he showed a marked tendency for agriculture, he was sent to continue his training in Sweden and Denmark. Zvi was one of the few talented individuals who were accepted to the few places of work in these countries that were available to the Hehalutz organization in Germany. Zvi did well in his work and the Swedish landlord tried to stay with him, but Zvi did not accept the offer and in 1935 immigrated to Palestine with a group of friends who had been trained in Denmark. Upon his arrival he joined the Yagur farm and worked devotedly in the vegetable garden. He was a man of earth by nature, but also a man of fulfillment willing to leave his favorite garden and to comply with all the demands of the movement. Zvi was sent by the agriculture to the quarries, to the kibbutz companies and to the occupation of the potash factory in Sodom. During the bloody riots of 1936-1939 he worked in the construction of the “Tigart” fence in the Upper Galilee. In late 1944, when Zvi enlisted in the Jewish Brigade, Zvi sought to enlist, but for reasons of agriculture his request was rejected. He was among the first volunteers to serve in the Carmeli Brigade and participated in the battles for the opening of the road to Yehiam and the conquest of two Arab villages near Akko, and together with his friends from Yagur was sent to the Upper Galilee and participated as a machine gunner in the Ramot Naftali defense. On the 5th of Sivan 5708 (July 5, 1948), he was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Yagur Issue a booklet in memory.
