Lesri, Eliyahu
Son of Makhluf and Solika. He was born in 1948 in Casablanca, Morocco, where Eliahu studied in “Yeshiva” (“the mother of the sons.”) After the family immigrated to Israel – and in 1963 he studied at the youth center and agricultural farm in Ofakim, The family settled in. He came straight from the ship to the youth center, where he studied for two years and then went to work, was very fond of all his knowledge and even after leaving the youth center, the students and teachers met with him and talked about his future. His father was very devoted to his father, who had no profession and worked in initiated work, so he wanted to acquire a profession and rescue a family from her distress. He was drafted into the IDF in May 1966. Eliahu went to the Paratroop Brigade and had nine months of service, and the parents, who waited for their son on holiday, were bitterly disappointed that Elijah did not arrive on the same day that he had to come. He was killed in an exchange of fire near the Damia Bridge on February 8, 1968, alongside his comrades-in-arms from the parachuted Nahal Brigade, who was brought to eternal rest in Ofakim. Bills to furnish the house of his married sister, but fate called him to repay another bill with one last payment – that is the bill of his life.
