Leshem (Finkelstein), Yosef (Yossi)


Son of Shlomo and Pnina. He was born on the 24th of Kislev, December 17, 1947, in Afula. When he reached school age, he began studying at the school in Ashdot Yaakov (the United Kibbutzim) and completed high school there. He later studied at a vocational school in the Jordan Valley. He was a member of the Hanoar Haoved movement. He belonged to Hapoel for football games in the Jordan Valley. He played the guitar. He was a nature lover and traveled extensively for the country. He was drafted into the IDF in November 1966, and became a squad commander, and was assigned to an officer’s course. He was fond of all his friends. On the 14th of Nissan, April 12, 1968, he fell in the battle that took place between our forces and the enemy forces in the Jordan Valley. The commander of his unit wrote to his family, in a letter of condolences, about his devotion and loyalty to the battalion and the state, for being a model for his friends and commanders. “He never hesitated to carry out an attack. The difficulty in the tasks that were imposed on the battalion, he dealt with utmost devotion and dedication. His death was the death of heroes.” A report of his memory was presented in the monthly report of the regional council of the Jordan Valley, Kinorot. The booklet “Who Fell in the War” published by Hakibbutz Hameuhad, published two articles about him.
