Leon, Elazar


Son of Menachem and Teah. He was born on January 4, 1953 in Holon. Elazar was conscripted into the IDF in November 1971 and assigned to the Armored Corps. After completing basic training, and after completing his course in armored personnel carriers, he was sent to an armored brigade in the Sinai and participated in battles on the Suez Canal during the Yom Kippur War and fought fiercely when he saw his comrades fall next to him. But he was an exemplary soldier and contributed as much as he could in the course of his job, and he specialized in armored personnel carriers and offered many suggestions for improvements in their structure and maintenance. Although he was assigned to guard duty at the rear base, on the 17th of Av 5734 (17.8.1974), Elazar fell in the line of duty. He was laid to rest in the cemetery in Rehovot. Survived by his parents and sister. After his death, Elazar was promoted to the rank of First Sergeant. His family commemorated him in a study room in memory of fallen soldiers of the Israel Defense Forces in the Magen elementary school where he studied.
