Leibowitz, Menashe

Son of Reizel and Reuven. Menasseh was born in the town of Rozbedow, Poland on the 16th of Adar 5631 (6.3.1920). He grew up in Poland. During World War II he and some of his family fled to Russia and stayed in Siberia. During this difficult period of wandering, Menashe lost his parents, two of his sisters and one brother, and treated his younger brother with great devotion. In 1947 Menashe immigrated to Israel, and in 1948 he joined the army and fought in the War of Independence. In 1951, Menashe married with a commission. They lived in Jerusalem, and they had two children: Rivka (1952) and Israel (1957). Menashe was a dedicated father and husband, who loved his family very much and devoted his life to it. Despite the economic shortage, his children grew up with the feeling that they lacked nothing. He did not spare his educational needs, cared for the best education for his children, and even encouraged them in times of crisis. Menashe supported his extended family and always volunteered to help his friends and community in the synagogue. He had a talent for manual labor, he repaired and renovated everything in his own home and never needed craftsmen. Menashe had a very large collection of coins and stamps, and he also created his stamp albums with his own hands. In 1955, Menashe was drafted into the Israel Police. During the Sinai and Six Day War, he moved to the Border Police, in order to serve in the front. On the 26th of Tevet 5707 (9.1.1975), Sergeant Menashe fell during his service. Fifty-five years old. He was buried in the cemetery on Har Hamenuhot in Jerusalem. He left a wife, son, and daughter.
