Leibowitz, Dov
Dov, son of Rosa and Sender Leibowitz, was born in 1927 in Hoss, Romania. He immigrated to Eretz Yisrael through the detention camps in Cyprus in September 1947. In Israel he was drafted and sent with the Oded Brigade to protect Malkieh from the Lebanese army, and his friends in the unit described Dov as a gentle helpful man. On 27 Iyar, June 5, 1948), a Lebanese force attacked Malkieh and the IDF suffered many casualties, including three missing persons. One was Dov; his burial place is unknown. A monument in his memory was erected in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem. This fallen hero is a “maklan” – a hero whose burial place is unknown.
