Leibovitz, Raul Fabian (Fabi)


Son of Shulamit and Yitzhak. Born in the city of Poseidas in the province of Mission in Argentina, he immigrated to Israel with his family in 1973. The family settled in Be’er Sheva, where Fabian made his elementary studies at the Tomer School, In 1981, the family moved to Omer and Fabian continued his studies in the high school of Makif G. He was especially fond of the pilots, and Fabian built and installed models and vacations during his vacations, and at the same time guided groups of boys in Omer and Be’er Sheva. From an early age, he discovered an attraction to sport and engaged in various sports, among his other hobbies: collecting stamps, listening to music, reading and walking the streets The country. But most of all he loved Fabian live, rejoice and be glad. Fabian loved his family and gave her a lot of satisfaction when he was a brother exemplary. He was an example to those around him sincerity and love and desire and willingness discovered to help others. In July 1985, he was recruited Fabian IDF. He began his military career with a pilot course, from where he moved to serve in the maintenance corps. At the end of his basic training, he served for about a year in Lebanon – at YKL – and then for more than a year at the base in the Be’er Sheva area, and on 18 December 1987 he volunteered for an unusual mission in the Gaza area, He was taken to Sheba Medical Center at Tel Hashomer for 19 days and fought for his life when his family and friends were close to him and accompanied him in his struggle: On January 6, 1988, Fabian died of his wounds. In the military cemetery in Beer Sheva, and the words “fell while fulfilling his duties” were engraved on his tombstone, leaving behind his parents and two brothers – Ariel and Avi. Fabian eulogized his commander: “… Fabian served for two and a half years in various and varied positions, and he showed great seriousness and dedication above and beyond. His spirit of volunteerism accompanied his tasks and among other things he volunteered for an unusual mission, which we unfortunately did not return … You were accepted among your commanders and friends to the unit, willing to help and help all those in need, out of faith, love and enthusiasm. The light of your dedication will light your way at this hour … “
