Leibovitz, Orel (Mondus)


Son of Rachel and Shlomo, was born onthe 22nd of Kislav, December 16, 1908, in the city of Braila, Romania. He finished high school, and served as an officer in the Romanian army. But he realized early on that there was no future for Jewish life in exile, and he aspired to emigrate. In the midst of World War II, in 1941, he achieved his goal. He arrived and settled in Tel Aviv and began working in a travel agency. In Palestine he was a member of the Haganah and immediately upon the outbreak of the South Lebanon conflict, he volunteered for the service even though he did not have to enlist. Orel’s battalion fought in the Upper Galilee, and he fell near Safed on the fifth of Adar 6.3.1949. He was brought to rest in the military cemetery in Rosh Pina. He left behind a wife and two children.
