Lecker, Peretz


Peretz, the only son of Rivka and Yaakov Lecker, was born in 1922 in Bucharest, Romania. From the day of his arrival in Israel, he was active in a youth movement. Despite the prohibition of his parents and his manager, he would go out in secret to guard at night. In July 1941, he joined the ranks of the Haganah. In 1947, at the outbreak of the War of Independence, he participated in the organization of military operations in Tiberias. In March 1948, he volunteered for the army and took part in operations, first in Yavne’el, and later in Kfar-Yeladim and Mizra. On 2 November 1948, he volunteered to remove mines on the Migdal-Me’ar road. At the time of their removal he was mortally wounded and died, on 2 Cheshvan, 4.11.1948. He was buried in Tiberias and on May 31, 1950 was transferred to the Nachlat Yitzhak military cemetery.
