Lavi, Orit


Daughter of Isaac and Rachel. Born on 17 June 1949 in Kibbutz Maayan Baruch, she studied at the elementary school in Moshav Beit Hanan in the south and after graduating from high school in Rishon LeZion was a member of the youth movement of workers’ moshavim. Was drafted into the IDF and assigned to the navy. Orit was very kind to all the soldiers of the unit for her dedication to her role, her gentleness, her modesty – and her grace. But she did not even finish her mandatory service, because she died on the 18th of Av 5728 (12.8.1968) on the main road between Netanya and Tel Aviv near Yakum – and because of the heavy mourning that descended upon the unit when the disaster became known, the festive events that were about to take place Near the disaster. She was laid to rest in the Beit Hanan cemetery. The commander of her unit in a letter of condolence to Orit’s parents, on his behalf and on behalf of the officers and soldiers of the unit, wrote: “We can not believe that Orit Lavi, the soldier who was so Simcha to serve in the unit, was an example of her friends. On the second anniversary of her death, the corner of Zichron, Neveh Even, was unveiled in the courtyard of the Beit Hanan school. Her parents published a booklet in her memory on the anniversary of her death.
